We’ve caught up with several employers, employees and agencies that have happily connected. Here are their stories.

The Smarts Behind the Wrench

Anthony, the young man in this story, was given a chance to learn a trade he enjoys thanks to a pre-apprenticeship training course through YMCA Career Development & Learning. His employer, transportation company FTI, has since registered Anthony as an apprentice Truck and Coach Technician. Read more to find out the many employer benefits of pre-apprenticeship training.

Happier Healthcare

Only one or two students per school in Hamilton spends a semester at a Healthcare Support Worker program, right on the hospital premises at Hamilton Health Sciences. The program helps young people like James Braun, who seized the opportunity in Grade 11 and now works as an Environmental Aide at the hospital. As for Hamilton Health Sciences, this educational program through the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board has not only addressed its staffing shortage but brightened its halls thanks to these new, young hires.Widespread concern about infection control, in the wake of SARS and C. Difficile, has increased the need for skilled support staff well trained in hospital hygiene practices.
